TEETH GRINDING/ TMJ THERAPY

DO YOU HABITUALLY GRIND YOUR TEETH?

Here are some solutions!

MOUTHGUARDS

DO YOU GRIND YOUR TEETH AT NIGHT? NIGHT GUARDS CAN HELP!
If you suffer from bruxism, or teeth grinding, you may be doing significant damage to your teeth. Chronic teeth grinding affects approximately one in four Americans, yet some don’t even realize that it is happening. Since it occurs during sleep, most people are left wondering why they wake up with a dull headache or sore jaw. At Town and Country Dental, Dr. Hwang want you to know that teeth grinding is a common symptom of stress, anxiety or frustration, and is a bad habit that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Aside from the more immediate pain that it can cause, your teeth will suffer the ultimate consequences.
Not only can it wear down enamel, but it can result in:
  • Tooth fractures
  • Loosening of teeth
  • Loss of teeth
  • Receding gums
LET US FIT YOU WITH A PROTECTIVE NIGHT GUARD
One of the most effective ways to put a stop to teeth grinding is to wear a night guard or occlusal guard while sleeping. This will physically reduce the pressure on your teeth and prevent you from causing any further damage. When you schedule an appointment with Town and Country Dental, we will fit you with a specially molded night guard. The guard is typically worn on one jaw, creating a protective barrier between your teeth. It is important to ensure a proper fit in order to prevent any further damage.

TMJ Therapy

ARE YOU SUFFERING FROM CHRONIC HEADACHES, EARACHES OR JAW PAIN?
You may have temporomandibular joint dysfunction, called TMJ disorder.

TMJ is a misalignment of the sensitive jaw joints. This can cause muscles to become stressed, which irritates nerves and leads to symptoms that range from mild to severe.
Symptoms of TMJ disorder include:
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Chronic earaches
  • Popping, clicking jaw joints
  • Jaw, face, head, neck pain
  • Low back pain
  • Tingling fingers
  • Inability to fully open/close the mouth
  • Teeth grinding (bruxism)
  • Tooth wear
For conservative, effective treatment, Town and Country Dental can create a custom oral appliance to correct jaw alignment and relieve nagging symptoms. If you suffer from TMJ symptoms, consult with your dentist to determine whether an oral appliance will relieve your pain.
